MEET THE TEAM

Matthew C. Shannon, BSN, RN

FOUNDER

A former Army Combat Medic that served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. His journey began when he was wounded and medically evacuated from Afghanistan after sustaining injuries from enemy fire. After his honorable discharge, Matt earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. Throughout his career, he worked in Intensive Care Units in Georgia, Florida, Connecticut, and Washington. Matt also worked as a nursing instructor for Behavioral Health at Georgia Southern University.

Today, Matt works as a Nursing Supervisor in the great state of Washington at Madigan Army Medical Center on Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Here, he continues to serve active military, veterans, and their dependents.

His passion to advocate for disabled veterans stemmed from his own frustration with the VA disability claim process and learning about similar experiences shared by other veterans.

Dr. Margarita Marmolejo

FAMILY NURSE PRACTITIONER / FOUNDER

A former Army Nurse who served in Afghanistan, she began her journey on the front lines, providing vital care to US troops, NATO allies, and local nationals in a Combat Support Hospital in Helmand Province. After an honorable discharge, she continued her career as an Registered Nurse in an Intensive Care Unit at a Level 1 trauma center in Georgia.

Margarita's dedication to her field led her to earn a Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Georgia Southern University and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Emory University.

Today, Margarita's passion lies in supporting veterans from all branches in their quest for the compensation they deserve. Her unwavering commitment to their well-being is a testament to her dedication to service and advocacy.

Stephen Chiu, BSN, RN

FOUNDER

“New York is the only city in the world where you can get run down on the sidewalk by a pedestrian.” - Russell Baker

A glutton for punishment, Stephen left Queens, New York in ’08 to enlist as a Combat Medic in the Army. Finding the accommodations unsatisfactory and the food abysmal, he agreed with his battalion commander’s order to visit Iraq in ’09. Bootleg DVDs broke the monotony between EOD escorts, cordon-and-search, and key leader engagement missions outside the wire. Keen to see colors other than brown, Stephen returned to the US and was honorably discharged a few years later. He attended Northwest Florida State College and earned a Bachelor’s in Science in Nursing. He jumped at the opportunity to work in a Level 2 Trauma Center ER after graduating. A couple years later, eager to leave Florida, Stephen next moved to the island of Oahu in Hawaii. He worked in high-volume Emergency Departments for the next five years and has napped on every beach on the island.

Today, Stephen works with active duty military, veterans and their family members as a Behavioral Health RN.
